Abstract

This study discusses the subject of historical events between historiography and jurisprudence, specifically within the context of Islamic history. It aims to explore the relationship that connects both the historian and the jurist with historical occurrences, focusing on presenting the jurists’ attitudes toward history, their perspectives on it, and their methodological approaches in dealing with its events, considering that history is not traditionally regarded as one of the jurists’ primary fields.

The study also examines the differences between the two disciplines in their treatment of historical events from several aspects, most notably their methods of selecting, verifying, and analyzing these events, as well as their approaches to reasoning and deduction based on them. It further seeks to identify the points of divergence and convergence between both disciplines and the extent to which integration between them can be achieved within the field of historical studies.

The research focuses on the subject from two main perspectives: the first concerns the nature of the historical material handled by the historian and the jurist, and the contributions of jurists to recording and documenting such events; the second concerns the stance of both the historian and the jurist toward interpreting and analyzing events, and the contribution of each to this process. Naturally, the research includes examples, citations, and textual evidence from both historical and jurisprudential works across different periods.
