Abstract
This study aims to provide a brief overview of the commercial history of the Sarat people and their economic relationship with Mecca in the Mamluk era, and the extent to which this relationship was linked to faith-based motives that made Sarat trade with the people of Mecca continue from the dawn of Islam until the beginning of the modern era. The importance of this study lies in the fact that the commercial and economic history of the Sarat region has not been the subject of academic scientific research except for a few, and because the history of Mecca is of great importance within Islamic history in general and the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in particular, which increases the importance of the subject and calls for intensifying solid scientific research on it. The study reached a number of important conclusions, including that Sarat trade played a significant role in revitalizing the Meccan economy and achieving food security for the people of Mecca Since the dawn of Islam. Among these conclusions is that Sarat merchants combined worship and trade on their journeys to Mecca, and that the faith-based motivation for their arrival in the Hijaz was stronger than the commercial motive.
