The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia boasts many cultural heritage sites that demonstrate its historical and cultural significance. It also boasts several historical trails, serving as a crossroads of human civilizations and a passageway for ancient trade caravans. However, the Kufa Hajj Route (Darb Zubaydah) is the most famous historical trail in the Arabian Peninsula, due to its importance and the abundance of archaeological landmarks it contains, many of which still stand today. This has qualified it for registration on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The importance of the Shihiyat (Al-Shuq) site as a stop on the Darb Zubaydah has prompted the launch of qualitative archaeological excavation work commensurate with the site's significance. This has allowed the discovery of its elements and facilities, serving as an example of the architecture of this period in our history. This underscores the role played by the Ministry of Culture, represented by the Heritage Commission, as part of its responsibilities towards cultural heritage. During the 2024 season, the second season, a variety of architectural elements were uncovered, including walls, water storage tanks, and ovens. Stone was the dominant building element for all architectural units.
