Abstract
This study highlights the importance of the security of the Red Sea region in light of the serious risks and threats it faces, as well as regional and international challenges. The responsibility for the security of the Red Sea is shared among the Arab and African countries overlooking it. Both Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Suez Canal are entrances to the Red Sea, and one of the most important sites that influence its security and regional and international navigation movement, due to the strategic and economic importance. Based on this responsibility, this paper shows us the Saudi Arabian strategy for achieving security in the Red Sea region since 1956. From the "Jeddah Security Charter" through numerous agreements and conferences, to an important turning point in Saudi policy, which was its announcement in December 2019 of an initiative "Establishment of the Council of Arab and African States Bordering the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden" which was approved by the Saudi Council of Ministers in February 2020, leading to the "Jeddah Declaration" at the 32nd Arab Summit in 2023. All these efforts were focused on achieving sustainable political, economic and environmental security for the Arab and African countries bordering the Red Sea.
